How To Know If Your Plumbing Pipes Need Pipe Restoration Services

Plumbing is an unexpected expense that no one wants to incur. However, it is one is most likely necessary if you are noticing any of the below in your home:

  • Leaks and water damage
  • Decrease in water pressure
  • Root intrusion
  • Mold
  • Smelly water
  • Clogging issues from debris buildup
  • Recurring issues after being fixed

If you are experiencing any of the following, we strongly recommend you contact a qualified plumbing service.

What Are The Types Of Pipe Restoration Solutions For Old Plumbing?

  • Trenchless Pipe Lining
  • Repiping
  • Plumbing Reroute/ Bypass

What Is Trenchless Pipe Lining?

Epoxy pipe lining, or trenchless pipe lining, is when a new pipe is created inside of your old piping system. Your old piping system stays intact which makes for a minimally invasive procedure that does not involve creating holes in your walls or digging up your property. It’s a cost effective, faster pipe repair solution compared to a traditional pipe replacement

When Is Trenchless Pipe Lining The Right Plumbing Solution?

Trenchless pipe lining can be the right plumbing solution when your pipes meet the following requirements:

  • Pipes are greater than 2” in diameter
  • Pipes are not fragile
  • Piping is not collapsed or back-pitched

Pipe lining lasts for 50 years, costs much less than traditional repiping and takes less time which makes it the most popular pipe restoration solution. Some plumbers, including  Ted & Bros Plumbing, will even cover their pipe lining services with a warranty.

What Is Repiping?

Repiping is a traditional pipe replacement where your old pipes are removed and replaced by new pipes. As the most expensive and involved method of pipe restoration, it is not usually someone’s first choice. However, if pipes are too old and fragile, sometimes it is the only available solution.

Repiping is typically done on pipes that are over 30 years old and have corrosion issues. These types of pipes are not healthy enough to withstand the alternative forms of repair.

When Is Repiping The Right Plumbing Solution?

If your pipes are too old, repiping is the right solution. It’s also beneficial if your pipes are made of galvanized metal, as most older pipes (before the 1970s) are. Galvanized metal will rust and cause blockages in the pipes. Repiping is also a good solution if you intend on selling your home in the future as they can add value to your home.

What Is A Pipe Reroute?

A pipe reroute, or plumbing bypass, is when your piping system is reconfigured to include new piping and cutting off the old ones. Pipes are cut and the old pipe is capped off. Your plumber will be able to bypass the old pipes by finding an entry and exit point and repipe from those points.

The old pipes do not need to be removed which makes the process minimally invasive and less labor intensive. It is a more affordable, faster pipe restoration solution compared to a traditional pipe replacement.

When Is A Pipe Reroute The Right Plumbing Solution?

  • A pipe reroute is a common solution after detecting a slab leak. It is a cost effective, minimally invasive method that will not disrupt your life as you can remain in your home or building while it’s being done.

Just like with trenchless pipe repair, not every plumbing system is a good candidate for a pipe reroute. If your pipes are too old, too fragile, or have had reroutes done in the past, a pipe bypass will not be an effective solution and it’s time for a repiping.
